The Burlington Hotel has hosted several famous names over the years, from Oscar Wilde to Charles Dickens, but in our 160-year history, we have never hosted a sitting Prime Minister – until now. In January this year, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stayed overnight with us and used our hotel as his base when he visited West Sussex for a schedule of official engagements.
The PM stayed in one of our luxurious sea-view suites and dined on aromatic seabass, marinated with saffron, chilli and coriander and served with charred courgettes, peppers and sweet potato.
During his time in Sussex, the Prime Minister held meetings in Worthing, visited the Sea Scouts at Shoreham Port with East Worthing & Shoreham MP Tim Loughton, and made a trip to Gatwick Airport with Crawley MP Henry Smith, where they met with Border Force officers.
Before he left, the PM took the time to thank the Najafi family, who have owned the Burlington for over six years, and had a photo taken together. He personally praised the food as “wonderful”, the view from the bar “exceptional”, and complimented the accommodation and service he had enjoyed during his stay.
Since 2017, the Burlington owners have set a vision and path to transform the hotel into a luxury destination, with an exquisite food menu at its bar and restaurant the Sea Pearl, in addition to holding events for the people of Worthing and the surrounding area (weddings, wakes, parties and milestone celebrations). The Burlington is now an elegant and highly desirable beachfront hotel that continues to attract and host distinguished guests.
